The Ladder
The Ladder

These slot canyons in Utah are amazing! This was a fun hike in, lots of neat little ice bridges to negotiate and sketch out about on the way up.

I love the ominous cave behind the falls giving way to the warm soft light above, all wrapped up in a scene that looks like something out of an Indiana Jones movie.

Watchmen Sunset
Watchmen Sunset

This is about as “world famous” as a known landscape composition can be. A wonderful view of The Watchmen in Zion National Park is available right off the main scenic drive. It faces almost perfectly east-west so it is a great spot for sunrises or sunsets (and milky way shots too!).

Frosty Fingers
Frosty Fingers

-8 degrees this morning! Was a doozy for my digits, but a treat to see Bryce Canyon completely blanketed in snow. One of my favorite locations on earth. And super creepy to shoot at night…

Hoodoo Heptapod
Hoodoo Heptapod

Big fan of the movie Arrival. These creepy formations at the Wahweap Hoodoos in Utah remind me of the Heptapods. Really interesting location. Long, but mellow hike.

Sky on Fire Over Union Peak
Sky on Fire Over Union Peak

An incredible pastel palette surrounds the wonderful Union Peak, about 7 miles south of global phenomenon Crater Lake. Sometimes all you need to do for the right shot is do a 180.

Wizard Fireworks
Wizard Fireworks

Wizard Island during an absolute fireworks show at Crater Lake, December 2017. 9 mile round trip on snow shoes but the temps were perfect and it is flat the entire way. We could see the pink just starting to light up the bottoms of the clouds as early as 5:30, and knew we were in for a treat.

Oregon Coast
Oregon Coast

December, 2017, Oregon coast sunset. The Oregon coast is really magical. It is wild, cliffy, [relatively] sparsely populated, and absolutely stunning.
